Motherhood

2017

electroformed copper

24K gold plated

Model:

In her performance Motherhood (2016), Jovanovic smashed raw eggs as a symbol of years wasted on art rather then on procreating. Sarcastic and symbolic gesture, counted the number of eggs her body produced since her first period. In the sculptural form, smashed eggshells were directly exposed to the electroforming process, creating identical copies and unique 267 pieces that were then plated in 24K gold. One sculpture will be added every month until the artist conceives or hits the menopause.
